Why Join a Committee?

As Albuquerque’s future leaders, YPA members strive to grow professionally and make a difference in our community.

Getting involved in a YPA committee helps you build lasting relationships with other members, and it helps shape the future of our organization. Additionally, committee participation is a requirement for board eligibility, which is an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills. Contact information for each committee chair is listed below the description. If any of the committees spark your interest, e-mail them directly to learn more and volunteer.

Community Engagement

The Community Engagement committee’s mission is to encourage YPA members to connect with a variety of local non-profit organizations. Committee members arrange quarterly service projects, publicize volunteer opportunities, and educate members about community organizations. We aim to make a difference by contributing our time, talent and fund-raising potential.

Membership

YPA’s membership committee serves a vital role of linking potential members with the organization. We serve as the first point of contact for young professionals looking to get involved, oversee the member application and approval process, and educate new members on how to best engage with the organization. We maintain the roster of current and potential members and work closely with the marketing committee to ensure all interested young pros are receiving YPA communications.

Professional Development

Professional development committee members recruit business owners, non-profit leaders and other interesting locals to speak at our monthly Lunches with Leaders. We find and arrange a different luncheon venue each month and coordinate with the partnership/sponsorship committee to secure and incorporate luncheon sponsors. Committee members gather speaker bios, coordinate announcements with the marketing committee, introduce luncheon speakers, and gather member input and feedback about our professional development events.

Social/Networking

We come up with creative monthly Live After Five happy hour mixers at locations throughout the city, review opportunities for YPA sports teams, organize fun events such as beer and wine tastings, trolley tours, membership and group outings and holiday parties. We partner with the community engagement committee to uncover opportunities for YPA teams at community events, work with the partnership/sponsorship committee to secure social event sponsors and communicate with the marketing committee to promote our events. Our committee encourages suggestions for social activities from YPA members.

Marketing

Members of the marketing committee are constantly seeking new ways to get the word out about the YPA, our activities, and events. We maintain the YPA website, work with other committees to promote the events they organize through emails, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and more. We develop marketing materials for distribution to potential speakers, members, and sponsors. Committee members take photos and videos to be used in promotional efforts.
