About YPA

YPA aims to attract Albuquerque young professionals in their 20s and 30s across all industries. Members are Albuquerque natives as well as transplants who are seeking to connect with young professional peers, develop leadership skills and get plugged in to the community.

One thing is for sure – YPA is not your standard networking group. We are constantly seeking to build a community that offers professional development, social and civic opportunities to help empower Albuquerque’s future leaders.

Our members don’t come to YPA events to schmooze and collect business cards. They come for an environment where everyone is encouraged to get involved and share ideas while developing lasting friendships.

As a young professional, you can’t afford to wait for the world to come to you. It has become increasingly important to develop a professional network, while actively engaging with the social and philanthropic community around you. Members of YPA are encouraged to take an active role in the organization from being involved with a variety of programs to volunteering for a leadership role on the board or a committee, where you can have an immediate impact on the success of the group.

The organization is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. Each member’s contribution is crucial to moving the organization forward and forging a path for success as Albuquerque’s future leaders.

Board of Directors

The YPA board of directors is comprised of up to 15 members who have actively served on a YPA committee prior to their nomination to the board. The board meets monthly to oversee the programming and management of the organization. The board is elected annually through a nomination process each August.

Committees

Six committees develop the programming for the YPA by meeting on a regular basis. All YPA members are eligible to volunteer for one or more committees, and the committees are always seeking input and feedback from members-at-large. Committees are the driving force behind YPA’s speaker programming, member recruitment and civic engagement efforts. The committee chairs are members of the board of directors.

History

The Young Professionals of Albuquerque was founded in 2009. The group was organized after several members had been active in the Young Executives Association, which was discontinued by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.

The YPA mission is to build a community that offers professional development, social and civic opportunities to help empower Albuquerque’s future leaders.

Founding board members were Matthew Roberts, Megan Mayo, Brad Gravelle, Seth Bush, Jerra Gonzales, Celia Ameline, Ryan Parke, Riann Powell, Chris Wagvik and Gavin Leach.
